2008 WiSport Worlds Course Descriptions: All OPEN Roads to motorized traffic.
This years TT Course will be approx. 17 miles long and an out and back format. This course is basically flat with some slight undulations but nothing so much as to really cause you to shift gears. These undulations may change your pedaling cadence some but it's pretty flat. There isn't any real danger areas to be aware of other than your occasional drive way or intersection but neither are through to the other side and all have good site lines for you to anticipate any potential hazards. The road surface is relatively smooth with little or no holes, ruts or gravel to contend with. The road should be lightly trafficked at worse but do remember you need to stay to the right at all times. There is no drafting. Please remember that other riders will be going out or coming back so as to not hog the road as you'll need to share with the potential car, truck, motorcycle or milk truck along the way. The county highway designation is; starting on county rd. U in downtown Waumandee and heading towards the town of Montana, merging left to intersect with county rd. X whereupon you will do a complete 180 degree turn (watching over your shoulder for potential traffic coming from the rear) and heading back from whence you've come and finishing at the start/finish line in downtown Waumandee.
Our Road Race course will start and finish in the same place as the TT. It's approx. 3.5 miles to the town of Montana and once there you will merge left and continue on cty rd U into cty rd X and up the long, steep climb. Almost as soon as you crest the climb you'll turn right on to cty rd CC and head down a rolling, somewhat twisting descent into the valley and there you will eventually merge in to cty rd C which takes you back into the town of Montana. WiSport women will turn left and head back to the start/finish line after completion of one lap. WiSport men will do another lap and then head back to the finish and Open racers will do 3 laps before heading back in to the finish. There was some pea gravel laid down in early August on the rollers on cty rd CC but it's mostly off and safe for bicycle traffic. As cty rd CC merges into cty rd C you will need to go through a stop sign so use caution as the traffic (if there is any) will be coming from your left so stay right if at all possible. Also, all left turns off the loop and into the finishing stretch puts you in a potential dangerous position as traffic flows left on U and you'll be disobeying another stop sign. All of these areas will be marshaled with citizen volunteers but do remember that traffic will not be stopped for you and the motorized vehicles in these areas of the course will have the right of way. Please use your caution.
